Myogi Green Hotel & Terrace: An Amazing Shabu-Shabu Dinner Buffet Stay Review

English Articles

This time, Joe stayed at Myogi Green Hotel & Terrace, a hotel selected as one of “Japan’s Top 100 Hotels” and known for its dinner and hot spring.

In this post, I’ll share my honest impressions and review after actually staying at Myogi Green Hotel & Terrace.

If you’re wondering what it’s like to stay at Myogi Green Hotel & Terrace, or you’re looking for a good hotel around the Tomioka/Myogi area, this post is for you — please read all the way through!

Selected as one of “Japan’s Top 100 Hotels”

Who Myogi Green Hotel & Terrace Is a Good Fit For

Myogi Green Hotel & Terrace exterior

There are around 20–30 hotels in the Tomioka/Myogi area. Because of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Tomioka Silk Mill and Mt. Myogi — one of Japan’s three great scenic wonders — many guests stay here for sightseeing or golf.

This time, Joe chose Myogi Green Hotel & Terrace in order to play golf at the adjacent Myogi Country Club, and based on the actual stay, here’s who this hotel suits best:

  • Those who want to relax and play golf during their stay
  • Those who want to drink plenty of alcohol
  • Those who want to sightsee at Tomioka Silk Mill

Let me go through each one.

The first reason is for those who want to relax and play golf during their stay.

Most guests probably choose this hotel for this reason — Myogi Country Club sits right on the same grounds.
The course offers views of the striking Mt. Myogi from anywhere on it, and it’s a serious championship-level course with excellent strategic design.
Since there’s never much spare time before or after a round, and fatigue sets in easily, having lodging right next door is incredibly convenient.

The second reason is for those who want to drink plenty of alcohol.

Dinner comes with an all-you-can-drink option covering beer, sake, and shochu! This kind of service for drinkers is unique to this hotel in the whole Tomioka/Myogi area.

Finally, the third reason is for those who want to sightsee at Tomioka Silk Mill.

Tomioka Silk Mill is a government-run model factory established in 1872 by the Meiji government to modernize the silk industry, and it’s famous as one of the area’s major tourist attractions after being registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in June 2014.
It’s a relatively easy trip from the hotel — within about 30 minutes by car.

This Stay’s Context

Joe checked straight into the hotel after playing a round at Myogi Country Club, which meant plenty of time to relax in the room and hot spring afterward.

Here’s a bit more about my stay — I can’t recommend this hotel to everyone’s taste, but personally I’d already decided to come back before the stay was even over (laughs).

Overview of Myogi Green Hotel & Terrace

Myogi Green Hotel & Terrace building

Now let’s get into the details of my stay at Myogi Green Hotel & Terrace.

On the day of my stay, I headed straight to the hotel after a round at Myogi Country Club.

The hotel’s free parking lot is shared with Myogi Country Club, so you can check in without even moving your car — a nice touch for golfers!

Hotel entrance and parking area

I took this photo from the hotel’s main entrance — the building to the right of the parking lot is the clubhouse, so it’s incredibly close by!

Check-In

Hotel lobby

It has a feel similar to a golf course clubhouse, but the front desk is on the right as soon as you walk in through the entrance.

Lobby ceiling and chandelier

Looking up at the high ceiling in the center, there’s a large, stylish chandelier — quite glamorous.

Lobby game and recreation area

Right past the entrance are two ping-pong tables and a game corner, plus an area where kids can play ring toss.

Further in, there was also a putting mat laid out.

Front desk check-in counter

Between 3 and 4 PM there tend to be a lot of guests arriving straight from their rounds, so I waited a little, but check-in itself was quick.

After receiving the room key, dinner ticket, and breakfast ticket, head to the elevators in the back. Dinner is flexible any time after 5:30 PM, which is very convenient — the rest comes down to how hungry you are.

Checkout is at 10:30 AM, so you can take your time a bit in the morning — nice!

Payment Note for Guests Golfing the Next Day

  • If you’re playing a round at Myogi Country Club the next day, payment is settled together through the country club, so checkout only requires returning your room key.

The Room

Guest room exterior hallway

The room I stayed in was a non-smoking 10-tatami Japanese-style room on the 10th floor.
Note that dinner is served on the 1st floor while breakfast is on the 10th floor — different venues, so keep that in mind.

10th floor elevator hall

The 10th-floor elevator hall has two elevators, so I never felt it was crowded.

Hallway to the room

My room was 1015, so it’s the corner room at the very end of the hall.
The green carpet stood out and felt very clean — it may have been recently replaced. I also noticed a vending machine in the hallway!

Room door with automatic lock

The door uses an auto-lock key, the kind you often see in older hotels.
The neighboring room felt a little close, so I just hoped we wouldn’t run into each other awkwardly.

Japanese-style tatami room interior

The room is listed as 10 tatami mats, but each mat is on the small side — it feels more like 8. Being a corner room, it’s a long, narrow Japanese-style layout.

TV area with amenities

Around the TV there’s an analog clock, an AC remote, a trash can, a kettle, and tea.
If you’re missing something, this is probably the area to check first.

Tea set below the TV

Below the TV there are teacups, glass cups, and Ito En green tea and hojicha.

Free ice machine on the 1st floor

There’s a free ice machine on the 1st floor. It dispenses a large amount in about 20 seconds, and tongs are available to borrow.

Low table and cushions in front of the TV

In front of the TV there’s a small wooden table and three floor cushions. The only downside is there’s nothing to lean back against except the wall.

Room key and meal tickets storage area

The room key, breakfast tickets, and dinner ticket go in a small space to the right of the room door.
Breakfast tickets are issued per person, while the dinner ticket is one per room.

Bath set (towels and yukata)

The bath set, placed near the room entrance, didn’t have quite enough hangers for the number of guests!

Bath towels and yukata close-up

The bath set includes a bath towel, face towel, and a yukata. Toothbrushes are in the sink area. The yukata design is fairly standard.

Other amenities are available next to the front desk. Since the hot spring is on B1F, it’s more efficient to pick up amenity items at check-in if your hands are free.

Safe and mini-fridge behind sliding doors

Easy to miss, but the safe and mini-fridge are in a two-tier cabinet behind sliding doors — open the bottom one to find them.
As part of an eco initiative, the fridge isn’t powered on by default, so turn the dial inside the fridge to switch it on.

Bathroom & Sink

Bathroom sink area

The sink area is clean and quite spacious.
Face towels are placed behind it, along with cups and toothbrushes.

Amenity bar

The amenity bar has cotton swabs, a razor, a comb, a hairbrush, and a shower cap, with a yukata placed alongside.

Toilet and bathtub area

Further back from the sink are the toilet and bathtub.
There are no slippers here, so I laid out the towel as a bath mat, though it was a bit small.

In-room bathtub

Since there’s a natural hot spring on B1F, you won’t really need to use this, but the bathtub is clean too, with enough room to stretch your legs out.

Shampoo and body care amenities

The shampoo products are by DHC, part of a dedicated hair & body care line built around the beauty benefits of olive oil — a pleasant option regardless of gender or age.

The Natural Hot Spring at Myogi Green Hotel & Terrace

Entrance to the hot spring on B1F

The natural hot spring is on B1F, right by the elevator.
Put your shoes in the shoe locker on the left side and walk the rest of the way barefoot.

Men's bath entrance noren curtain

The men’s bath noren curtain reads “Natural Hot Spring: Bath of Longevity.”
Soak in this spring and live long!

Women's bath entrance noren curtain

Changing room

The changing room is spacious, with several chairs, a coin-operated massage chair, and a scale.

Water server in the changing area

Having both room-temperature and chilled water available from a water server is a nice touch.

Indoor bath

The water, drawn from 2,000 meters underground and often called the “beauty spring,” is a sodium bicarbonate spring said to contain traces of ancient seawater from 60 million years ago.

Be careful when using the shower — the floor can be slippery, and if you lock the shower head in place while increasing the water pressure, it can pop loose and spray other guests. The strong water pressure itself is great, though.

The open-air bath is on the small side, with room for about 3 people at most. At night, since it’s surrounded by the golf course, there’s nothing visible around you. The temperature felt just right, around 41°C.

Myogi Green Hotel & Terrace does not have a sauna.

Dinner at Myogi Green Hotel & Terrace

Dinner venue entrance

After the bath, it’s time for dinner!
The dinner venue is the Convention Hall on the 1st floor. Even on a weekday stay, I was seated without any wait.

Shabu-shabu buffet spread

Dinner is an 80-minute shabu-shabu buffet with all-you-can-drink alcohol included. Beyond the shabu-shabu itself, there’s a generous lineup of side dishes — sushi, sashimi, roast duck, offal stew, fried oysters, and more.

Sushi selection

The sushi selection is limited to shrimp, squid, and tuna, but shabu-shabu is clearly the main event here.

Meat selection for shabu-shabu

It’s self-service, and there are 5 types of meat: loin, pork, shoulder loin, chicken tsukune, and beef.
Just getting through these is a challenge in itself…
The meat is tender but with satisfying thickness — it doesn’t look domestic, but it’s good quality.

Vegetable selection

Vegetables include green onion, mizuna, napa cabbage, shimeji mushrooms, and bean sprouts — a great chance to load up on veggies.

Additional hot pot ingredients

There’s also shiitake and enoki mushrooms, aromatic herbs, and udon noodles. I couldn’t quite make it to the udon! (laughs)

There’s also salad, konnyaku, and plenty of other hearty options!!
It’s self-service, so 80 minutes might feel a bit short.

The all-you-can-drink menu included draft beer, chu-hai, highballs, plum wine, and several brands of shochu and gin.

Breakfast at Myogi Green Hotel & Terrace

Breakfast restaurant entrance

Breakfast is served at Sky Restaurant Hikosen on the 11th floor, with a coffee service near the entrance.

Breakfast buffet spread

The breakfast buffet has a wide selection, centered on classic Japanese dishes like simmered dried daikon strips, kinpira gobo, rolled omelet, and onsen tamago, alongside bread and some Chinese dishes.

They also serve koshine-jiru, a local Gunma specialty soup.
It’s packed with vegetables — burdock root, taro, carrot, tofu, pork, and more — and it was delicious!

Window seats overlooking the golf course

I’d recommend a window-side table with a view of the golf course and Mt. Myogi.
There were already groups out playing early in the morning.

Gift Shop at Myogi Green Hotel & Terrace

Gift shop next to the front desk

There’s a gift shop on the 1st floor next to the front desk.
It’s convenient since you can still buy souvenirs even after checking out.

Final Impressions of Myogi Green Hotel & Terrace

Hotel exterior view

This time, I used the hotel as a place to stay after a round of golf!

With only one indoor bath and a fairly small open-air bath, the hot spring itself was just okay — but the shabu-shabu buffet dinner, the breakfast buffet, and the golf-course-and-Mt.-Myogi view from Sky Restaurant Hikosen were all fantastic.

The room, while listed as 10 tatami mats, felt a bit small, and it was a shame there weren’t any chairs with backrests — but it was clean and comfortable to stay in.

If I get another chance to play a round at Myogi Country Club, this hotel will be my first choice again!

It’s also a convenient base thanks to its relatively easy access to Tomioka Silk Mill.
