Super Hotel Fuji-Kawaguchiko Natural Hot Spring: Great Value for a Business Hotel

English Articles

For this trip, I stayed at the Super Hotel Fuji-Kawaguchiko Natural Hot Spring, which opened in July 2021 and sits just a short drive from the Kawaguchiko IC in Yamanashi.

In this article, I’ll share my honest impressions and review of my stay at the Super Hotel Fuji-Kawaguchiko Natural Hot Spring.

If you’re curious about staying at the Super Hotel Fuji-Kawaguchiko Natural Hot Spring, or you’re hunting for a good hotel around Kawaguchiko, this article should be a great fit for you, so stick around to the end.

Who Super Hotel Fuji-Kawaguchiko Natural Hot Spring Is a Great Fit For

Super Hotel Fuji-Kawaguchiko Natural Hot Spring exterior

Around Kawaguchiko, you get a year-round view of Mt. Fuji, Japan’s tallest peak, changing with the seasons. That draws visitors all year, which is why the area is dotted with hotels.

This time I chose the Super Hotel Fuji-Kawaguchiko Natural Hot Spring with sightseeing around Kawaguchiko in mind, and after actually staying here, I’d say this hotel is a great fit for people who match the following:

  • Want to stay somewhere close to Fuji-Q Highland
  • Want to eat the Yamanashi specialty hoto noodles for dinner
  • Want to keep accommodation costs down without sacrificing too much quality

Let’s go through each one.

First, people who want to stay somewhere close to Fuji-Q Highland.

It’s just a 3-minute drive from the Super Hotel Fuji-Kawaguchiko Natural Hot Spring to Fuji-Q Highland. Whether you want to unwind after a full day at the park or stay the night before to arrive first thing in the morning, the access here is outstanding either way.

Second, people who want to eat the Yamanashi specialty hoto noodles for dinner.

When it comes to Yamanashi specialties, hoto noodles are the one to try! The hoto specialist restaurant “Hosei,” recognized as serving some of the best hoto in Japan, is just a 5-minute walk from the hotel. Since only a handful of hotels actually serve hoto hot pot for dinner, this location is ideal if you want to try it easily.

Third, people who want to keep accommodation costs down without sacrificing too much quality.

These days, hotel rates have climbed everywhere thanks to rising labor costs. But trying to cut costs too aggressively usually means a steep drop in quality too.

This hotel keeps its quality up despite being a business hotel — you’ll see why as you read on — and for two guests, you can stay here, hot spring and breakfast included, for just around ¥4,000 per person.

Access to Super Hotel Fuji-Kawaguchiko Natural Hot Spring

The Super Hotel Fuji-Kawaguchiko Natural Hot Spring is a business hotel run by Super Hotel Co., Ltd., well known for its high customer satisfaction thanks to comfortable, high-quality rooms, a natural hot spring plus artificial carbonated spring bath, and a delicious, health-conscious breakfast made with organic vegetables, despite being a business hotel.

Super Hotel Fuji-Kawaguchiko Natural Hot Spring Plans and Rates

The most popular plan at the Super Hotel Fuji-Kawaguchiko Natural Hot Spring includes the natural hot spring plus a freshly baked bread breakfast buffet. The plan I actually booked and stayed on was Rakuten Travel’s “No Change / No Refund Plan: Natural Hot Spring & Freshly Baked Bread Breakfast Buffet,” which came to ¥14,700 on a weekday rate including breakfast (this was in September). Split between three people, that’s just ¥4,900 each — with a hot spring and breakfast included, that price is honestly too good!

Super Hotel Fuji-Kawaguchiko Natural Hot Spring: Hotel Overview

Now let’s get into the details of my stay at the Super Hotel Fuji-Kawaguchiko Natural Hot Spring.

I got off the Higashi-Fuji-Goko Road at the Fujiyoshida IC and reached the hotel after a 5-minute drive on regular roads! It’s also just a 4-minute drive from the Kawaguchiko IC on the Chuo Expressway, so access from the highway is excellent either way.

The hotel has parking both in front and toward the back right, with 80 spaces on a first-come, first-served basis, so during the fall foliage season it’s worth arriving early.

Parking area at the back of the hotel

This is the parking area toward the back. The spaces might be a touch narrow.

Check-In

Front desk at Super Hotel Fuji-Kawaguchiko

Walking in through the entrance, the front desk is right there in front of you. It’s compact, but can handle check-in for two groups at once, and there’s a luggage shelf too.

The cleanliness is hard to believe for a business hotel. The hotel uses a paperless, tablet-based check-in system. Once you check in, you’re given a receipt-like slip of paper with your room number and the code to unlock your door — be careful not to lose it!

Seating area next to the front desk

I took a look at the area next to the front desk. There are a few hanging chairs and pop-colored seats, giving the space a stylish touch.

Women's amenity gift set

Women get a 5-piece amenity gift for each night’s stay! These women’s amenities were planned and developed by the hotel’s own front-desk attendants, featuring rare rose extracts — the pure white “Rosa Alba” and the gorgeous deep-red “Hybrid Rose” — along with the benefits of silk, for smooth skin the next morning. The 5-piece set includes an organic face wash, non-silicone shampoo, conditioner, and an all-in-one gel, among others.

Pillow selection service near the elevator

There’s a pillow-on-request service by the elevator! Though since we checked in a bit late, the popular pillows were already out of stock.

If you’re someone who struggles to sleep on a hotel’s standard pillow, make sure to check this out first and grab your favorite before it’s gone.

Guest Room

Guest room hallway on the 2nd floor

My room this time was on the 2nd floor. The hallway is on the brighter side.

Clean hallway leading to the room

The hallway feels spotlessly clean — it puts you in a great mood!

Keypad lock on the room door

The room lock uses a number code, with the passcode printed on the receipt you’re given. No key, no checkout hassle.

Just press START and enter the 6-digit code. Click, and you’re in.

Compact guest room

The room is built purely for sleeping and is on the small side, but everything you actually need is placed exactly where it should be.

Large TV relative to room size

The TV is almost comically large for the size of the room.

It lets you check real-time crowding for breakfast, the large communal bath, and the coin laundry.

Bunk-style bed with double on bottom, single on top

It’s a bunk-style setup, with a double bed on the bottom and a single bed on top — a clever way to make the most of the room’s limited space.

The ceiling is a bit low, so mind your head if you’re sleeping up top.

Outlets and USB ports on the bed

The bed has two outlets and a USB port.

Super Hotel original tote bag

A Super Hotel original tote bag — handy for casually carrying your change of clothes or wash kit around. Just note you can’t take it home with you.

Electric kettle and amenities in the room

There’s an electric kettle, a glass for each guest, an in-house menu, and a hair dryer.

Humidifier in the room

There’s a humidifier in the middle of the room, keeping the air properly circulated.

The ceiling is coated with diatomaceous earth, which apparently keeps the temperature comfortable and the air clean at all times.

Variety of charging cables provided

A variety of charging cable types are provided, which is a lifesaver if you forgot yours.

There’s an alarm clock too.

Mini fridge in the room

The fridge is on the small side, so bring your own 500ml bottles if you need them.

Open storage space in the room

There’s no physically separated closet, but there’s still plenty of space to store your things.

Bathroom, Sink, and Toilet

Spacious bathroom and sink

It almost feels more comfortable than the room itself — the bathroom, sink, and toilet are spacious and clean!

The mirror is large too, making it easy to get ready.

Wide sink area

The sink is wide and easy to use — hard to believe this is a business hotel! The hotel’s water is all “healthy ionized water,” apparently suited for both drinking and bathing.

Toilet area

The toilet is a long, narrow space with plenty of room (a quietly important detail).

In-room bathtub

Even the bathtub is spacious enough to stretch your legs out fully! Though with a large communal bath on the 1st floor, I never actually used it.

Welcome Drinks at Super Hotel Fuji-Kawaguchiko

Welcome drink corner with wine and cocktails

Beyond soft drinks, there’s a corner where you can enjoy Yamanashi wine, cocktails, and a range of other alcoholic drinks.

Unfortunately, there aren’t any snacks to go with it.

Large Communal Bath at Super Hotel Fuji-Kawaguchiko

Entrance to the natural hot spring

After relaxing a bit in the room, it’s time to head to the natural hot spring.

The hot spring entrance is next to the 1st-floor front desk. Hours run from 15:00 to 9:00 the next morning.

Women's entrance with number-code lock

The women’s side uses the same number-code lock as the rooms, so it’s safe to use even alone. As the signage notes, capacity is limited to 6 men and 4 women at a time.

Men's changing room

This is the men’s changing room. It’s not huge, but it has a scale and a quiet, bladeless circulator fan.

A water dispenser isn’t provided, so bring your own drinks along.

Sink area near the bath

There’s a single sink with two hair dryers, and the toilet is to the left.

Dark, calming bath interior

The photo came out a bit bright, but the interior actually has a dark, calming look that helps wash away the day’s fatigue. The source water comes from the Yugawara hot spring and is clear and colorless. Organic shampoo, conditioner, and body soap are all provided.

Breakfast at Super Hotel Fuji-Kawaguchiko

Breakfast venue, LOHAS Lounge

Breakfast is served in the 1st-floor LOHAS Lounge, open 7:00-9:00. Slippers and pajamas aren’t allowed, so change into regular clothes first.

The breakfast buffet is included with your stay — and remarkably, it’s completely free!

The vegetables are organic, and there are 5 original health-focused dressings to make them even tastier.

The dishware is apparently made from wheat and cacao byproducts, called “e-dish.”

It’s processed along with food scraps and reportedly used as fertilizer for farmland.

Freshly baked bread at breakfast

Freshly baked bread and the hotel’s signature kappa rice bowl are both on offer, with a lineup that’s hard to believe for a business hotel. The vegetables are certified organic JAS, making it a genuinely healthy spread.

Kappa rice bowl, a Kawaguchiko local specialty

There’s also kappameshi, a Kawaguchiko local specialty. If you love grated yam, you’re bound to get hooked!

There’s also grilled salted chicken, mackerel simmered in Saikyo miso, a plain omelet, and simmered bamboo shoots, among other dishes that go well beyond your typical business hotel spread.

Final Impressions of My Stay

Super Hotel Fuji-Kawaguchiko Natural Hot Spring exterior

This time I stayed here while sightseeing around Lake Kawaguchi, visiting Oshino Hakkai, a herb garden with sweeping views of Mt. Fuji, and the hoto specialist restaurant “Hosei.”

Since the hotel only opened in 2021, both the exterior and interior are spotless, and the whole building felt comfortable to be in, wherever I was.

The room size was about what you’d expect from a typical business hotel, but at ¥5,000 a night with breakfast, a natural hot spring, and a welcome drink all included, there’s really nothing to complain about — it’s genuinely cheap.

The large communal bath can get crowded at certain times, so I had to keep checking the crowd status on the in-room TV, but being able to check it without leaving the room meant the stay never felt stressful.

For anyone looking to keep accommodation costs down, this is likely one of the first hotels that should come to mind.

A natural hot spring, a genuinely good breakfast buffet, and rates this low, just minutes from Fuji-Q Highland — for a business hotel, this one massively overdelivers on value.
