Hi! I’m Joe.
The first thing that makes you hesitate after arriving at Kuala Lumpur International Airport is probably “getting from the airport to the city (your hotel).”
“The fastest KLIA Express,” “the cheapest limousine bus,” “the effortless Grab”…
Having many options is nice, but actually, “the best-value, smartest choice” changes depending on your accommodation area and how many people are traveling.
In this article, I give a candid review of the pros and cons I found by actually trying them.
3 ways to travel from Kuala Lumpur Airport
[Fastest] KLIA Express | Comfortable travel with no traffic jams

My frank impression after actually riding: “It’s faster than I expected! And comfortable!!”
Joe also actually rode the KLIA Express. To get straight to the conclusion, it was faster and more comfortable than I imagined.
The flow from arriving at the airport to boarding the train was smooth too, and the signage is easy to follow, so you’ll hardly ever get lost. The train is clean and has free Wi-Fi. While riding, you can check social media or research your next destination.
Before I knew it, we’d arrived at KL Sentral Station—!!
That’s how quickly the 28 to 33 minutes flew by.
Buying tickets on Klook is by far the best option

KLIA Express is RM55 one way, but by buying through Klook you can purchase in advance, and there was a campaign running (or points awarded) that made it cheaper than the local price.

If you buy in advance, all you do is hold the QR code on the voucher screen above to the gate, so there’s truly zero hassle on site!!
So easy!!!
Even at the hectic moment right after arriving, not having to queue at a ticket machine is a real help.
In many cases it’s a few hundred yen cheaper than buying on site, so booking in advance is the only way to go.
Plenty of chances for photos and videos

You can travel while looking at the Malaysian scenery, which gets you excited as the start of your trip.
Please bring your camera or vlog camera when you ride.
[Cheapest] Limousine bus | If you just want to keep costs down, this is it
Frankly, Joe has never used the limousine bus.
But it’s an option cost-conscious travelers shouldn’t overlook, so I’ve summarized it as research information.
The fare is RM13 one way, the cheapest of the five ways to travel.
However, service is infrequent at one bus every 30 minutes, and the trip takes about 60 minutes.
The bus stop is on the 2nd floor at KLIA1 and the 1st floor at KLIA2. Tickets can be bought at the counter on site.
It can be affected by traffic jams, so it suits times when you have time to spare after your flight.
[Comfortable] Grab (ride-hailing app) | The strongest ally for groups and heavy luggage

Traveling by Grab from Kuala Lumpur International Airport to KL Sentral costs RM78.
- Pros: Takes you reliably to your destination (hotel, etc.) in comfort
- Cons: Expensive (RM78 to KL Sentral: about ¥3,120 as of May 2026)
It’s pricey for one person, but for two or more, Grab is overwhelmingly cheaper and more reliable.
So which is best? Recommended transport by type
Getting from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA/KLIA2) has a different right answer depending on whether you prioritize “time efficiency,” “low cost,” or “ease.”

“Time is money!” For those who want the shortest route
Recommended: KLIA Express
Good for: Solo travelers, business trips, or whirlwind trips where you can’t waste a single minute.
Why: Unaffected by traffic jams, the peace of mind of reaching the city (KL Sentral Station) in about 30 minutes is outstanding. The cars are clean and Wi-Fi is available, so it’s also ideal for researching your next sightseeing spot en route.
Note, however, that if your hotel is far from KL Sentral Station, you’ll need a secondary leg from there (LRT or Grab).
On my first day after arrival, Joe stayed at a city hotel near KL Sentral!!
“Best value!” For those who want to save on transport
Recommended: Express bus
Good for: Backpackers, student trips, and solo travelers with time to spare.
Why: The overwhelmingly low price of RM16 is the appeal. It takes time, but relaxing while gazing out the window is part of the joy of travel.
However, if it overlaps with the evening rush it can take over an hour and a half, so the rule is to avoid it for your return flight or leave very early.
“I just want it easy!” For heavy luggage or group travel
Recommended: Grab (ride-hailing app)
Good for: Groups of two or more, family trips, people with large suitcases, and late-night or early-morning flights.
Why: The biggest advantage is that it takes you “door to door” from the airport to your hotel entrance. There’s no transfer stress and no struggle hauling heavy luggage up and down station stairs.
If three people ride together, the per-person fare is often cheaper than the KLIA Express, so it’s actually a very smart option!
