Yokohama Natural Hot Spring SPA EAS: A Full Review — How Crowded Does It Get?

English Articles

Today I’m introducing Yokohama Natural Hot Spring SPA EAS (hereafter SPA EAS), just 5 minutes on foot from Yokohama Station’s west exit, offering top-tier spa time right in the middle of the big city.

It’s a spa that’s earned real attention, ranking 3rd nationwide in the Nifty Onsen Rankings 2022!

Joe, who loves hot springs and saunas, actually went and checked it out, so in this post I’ll share what SPA EAS is really like, including how crowded it tends to get!

Basic Info for Yokohama Natural Hot Spring SPA EAS

SPA EAS exterior / building

Yokohama Natural Hot Spring SPA EAS, 5 minutes on foot from Yokohama Station, is an adults-only (18+) comprehensive spa facility with a genuine source-fed natural hot spring.

Drawing from 1,500 meters underground, the facility spans roughly 6,600 square meters and features the source-fed hot spring along with 3 types of bedrock baths, 4 kinds of saunas, a manga corner, a relaxation lounge space, massage services, and women-only facilities.

With a popular löyly sauna event and paid stretching lessons in the women-only space, this is guaranteed to be quality adults-only downtime.

Inside Yokohama Natural Hot Spring SPA EAS

SPA EAS entrance floor

SPA EAS’s entrance is on the 4th floor of the Hama Bowl EAS building, so take the elevator or escalator up from the 1st floor.

Nifty Onsen, the review site that ranks the most popular hot springs and spas out of roughly 16,000 facilities, proudly displayed SPA EAS’s nationwide 3rd-place ranking right at the entrance!

Decorated hallway leading to the front desk

The hallway to the front desk was decorated for the season — visiting right before Christmas, I was greeted by a small Christmas tree and a Santa figure. Already got my hopes up.

Blue carpet at the entrance

Once you spot SPA EAS’s blue carpet, take off your shoes. The entryway was a bit smaller than I expected — maybe that’s just how it is.

Front Desk at Yokohama Natural Hot Spring SPA EAS

Shoe locker area

The entryway felt small, but then I saw rows and rows of shoe lockers.

Put your shoes in a locker and bring the shoe locker key to the front desk. No 100-yen coin needed.

When I mentioned it was my first visit, a trainee staff member kindly walked me through the facility using a tablet.
Apparently you need to choose from several entry plans — this time I went with the standard plan, which includes bedrock bath access with no time limit, something I’d decided on ahead of time. Also worth noting: if you lose your shoe locker key or your IC-chip wristband — which doubles as your in-facility wallet — you’ll be charged ¥5,000 and ¥10,000 respectively, so be very careful not to lose either.

The Main Bath at Yokohama Natural Hot Spring SPA EAS

Wear/towel rental counter

After finishing at the front desk, head up the stairs and follow the path — you’ll see the wear rental counter, where you pick up a tote bag containing your loungewear and bath towel set.

Choose from free size, 2XL, or 3XL.

When you leave, return the whole tote bag at this same counter.

Used face towels go in a designated box and can be exchanged for free, but bath towels cost extra.

Additional Rental ItemPrice
Bedrock bath towel¥150
Extra loungewear set (incl. bath towel & face towel)¥250
Bath towel¥100
Portable charger¥300
Hallway leading to men's and women's bath areas

Straight ahead is the hallway up from the 4th-floor front desk — the men’s bath is on the left, the women’s bath on the right.

Seating area in front of the women's bath

In front of the women’s bath there are chairs and a clock for meeting up — a thoughtful touch for couples, married couples, and families.

Locker room

The lockers are a bit narrow, so try to avoid bringing large bags or backpacks. If something doesn’t fit, there’s a paid coin locker on the 4th floor for ¥500.

Each locker has 2 hangers, so a suit won’t wrinkle during your stay.

How to Use the Lockers

  • The 4-digit number on your wristband is your locker number — press the number side against the white circle on the locker to unlock it. The lockers are auto-locking, so be very careful not to close the door while your wristband is still inside.
Natural hot spring bath

The amber-colored, source-fed hot spring water, drawn from 1,500 meters underground, is said to help with stiff shoulders, poor circulation, fatigue recovery, and chronic gynecological issues, along with excellent moisturizing and heat-retention effects that warm you from the core and deepen relaxation!

It reminded me a lot of Spa LaQua in Korakuen — the water quality is wonderfully similar. Feels amazing.

Open-air bath area

The open-air area has three types: a hotter source-fed bath, a carbonated bath, and the “bath of oblivion” (a body-temperature bath).

The Sauna at Yokohama Natural Hot Spring SPA EAS

Finnish-style tower sauna

The authentic Finnish-style tower sauna has a fan-shaped, theater-style layout with 6 tiers total. The bottom 1–2 tiers on the right double as stairs, so they’re practically unusable for sitting.

The center is packed with stones, giving it real presence.

The thermometer read 86°C, but on Men’s Day every Friday, with so many people coming and going, it reportedly sometimes drops below 85°C. The humidity is substantial enough that you’ll work up a serious sweat.

There are TV spaces on the walls to either side of the entrance, but they’re covered with posters reading “Silent Bathing,” so there’s effectively no TV. Instead, soothing piano music plays throughout, which makes for a great environment to relax deeply.

As is now standard in saunas, talking isn’t allowed — keep that in mind.

The men’s sauna also hosts a löyly event every hour on the hour at the unisex 6th-floor sauna “Genjo” — join wearing your loungewear.
After the event you’ll want to change your loungewear since you’ll be drenched in sweat, but there’s no bedrock bath outfit available and you only get one loungewear set.
Swapping it costs an extra ¥250, so it’s worth timing your participation carefully — a bit of a shame.

Women's sauna interior

The women’s sauna has a stylish circular design with stones arranged in the center.

A reservation-free steam bath event (women only) runs every Tuesday at six set times (10:40, 12:40, 14:40, 16:40, 18:40, 20:40) — worth joining if the timing works out.

How to Join the Weekday-Only Löyly Event

Löyly event sign-up area

To join, sign up in advance at the 4th floor. Staff will note your locker key number as your reservation.

When the löyly session is about to begin, they’ll call out locker key numbers at the sauna entrance — if yours is called, answer, grab a face towel, and you’re ready to go!

The event lasts about 10 minutes. Aroma water is poured over the stones in two rounds, and a blower sends the heat wave directly at you — the heat reaches a whole new level! Absolutely incredible.

The Löyly Event at Yokohama Natural Hot Spring SPA EAS

Löyly event gathering area

This is the gathering spot. Hand your numbered ticket from check-in to the staff.

Face towel and fan hand-out

You’ll receive a face towel and a fan and get ready. There are hooks on the wall for your belongings — leave your phone in your locker.

Löyly ritual with aroma water

Pour aroma water on the central stones, and staff fan huge amounts of heat toward everyone with large fans.
Afterward, everyone fans themselves with the fans they received to build the heat further — a fully participatory event!
This is the real Finnish sauna experience.

Cooldown room after the löyly event

After the löyly session, cool down in the adjacent “Suzukaze” room. There’s a water fountain nearby too, so hydration is covered.
The recliners fill up fast, so sit near the entrance in the sauna if you want to get out quickly — worth keeping in mind.

Cold Plunge Bath at Yokohama Natural Hot Spring SPA EAS

Men's cold plunge bath

The cold plunge is about 16°C and roughly 110cm deep, so crouching down lets you fully submerge. It fits up to 5 people comfortably.

There’s a drinking fountain nearby shaped like a gas lamp stand, so make sure to hydrate.

Women's cold plunge bath

The women’s cold plunge is about 18°C with a depth of 60–80cm, a just-right depth. Might feel a bit cold for women who aren’t used to cold plunges.

Relaxation Space at Yokohama Natural Hot Spring SPA EAS

The relaxation (“totonoi”) space has 4 chairs in the indoor bath area plus part of the washing area converted into 6 recliners, and 4 more seats in the open-air area.

The ratio between sauna capacity and relaxation seating is almost 1:1 — ideal.

Outdoor air-bathing in winter feels amazing, but the indoor relaxation space has nothing to generate airflow, which leaves it feeling a little lacking.

Dining at Yokohama Natural Hot Spring SPA EAS

Dining area entrance

On the 6th floor — the beauty, sweat, and food floor — there’s a restaurant called Umakamon-ya, serving seasonal Kyushu and Okinawa cuisine.

Dining area seating

With everything from table seats to tatami seating available, it’s a guaranteed relaxing spot after your bath.

Rows of autographs from professional baseball players line the walls — a sign of just how popular this spa is.

Local sake display

Local sake bottles are lined up wall to wall. Look out the window and you can dine elegantly with a view of the Yokohama night skyline.

Okinawan Agu pork mince cutlet set meal

Wanting a hearty post-sauna meal, I chose the Okinawan Agu pork mince cutlet set for ¥1,280. A large rice portion is +¥160.

The mince cutlet really let the flavor of the Agu pork shine through. Fresh and juicy — I polished it off in no time.

From Kyushu regional dishes to drinking snacks, there’s a wide-ranging menu to choose from.

Friday drink service ticket

Every Friday is Men’s Day, and checking in earns you a free drink ticket.
Eligible drinks range from various alcoholic options to soft drinks — definitely worth using!

The Lounge at Yokohama Natural Hot Spring SPA EAS

Relaxation lounge on the 5th floor

The 5th floor has a relaxation lounge, a calming space away from the hot spring.

Fully flat recliners line a spacious area.

Recliner chairs with TV and outlets

The recliners are the standard type you’d find at any spa facility, complete with an LCD TV and an outlet. There’s also a blanket service, plus free Wi-Fi of course.

Recliner controls

TV and recliner controls are on a side panel. With no kids around, it’s a luxurious adults-only space where you can really get a good rest!

Privacy film on lounge windows

There’s also privacy film blocking the view from outside, which is a nice touch that lets women use the space worry-free.

Venus Lounge on the 5th floor

This is the 5th-floor Venus Lounge. It’s small, but it has a manga corner, table seating, sofa seating, and even a lit office desk area.

As long as you don’t need to join a meeting, it’s a perfect setup for remote work.

Desk seating with charging station

Especially recommended is this desk seat — a multi-function light stand with just-set-your-phone-down charging, plus an outlet, making remote work entirely doable.

Additional desk seating area

There are even more desk seats toward the back — an office-grade setup that’s honestly a bit overwhelming.

EAS Cafe in the center of the lounge

In the center is EAS Cafe, serving light meals and drinks.

Stairwell plaza with duck decorations

In the middle of the 6th floor is a stairwell plaza called Grand Scala, decorated with a row of evenly spaced rubber duck plushies — easy to spot.

Seeing those heavy-headed, slouched-over ducks is oddly soothing.

Photo spot above the stairwell plaza

Above the Grand Scala stairwell plaza is a dedicated photo spot.

Since I visited during the Christmas season, it was decked out for the holidays — seriously impressive attention to detail.

Women-only private premium room

The 7th floor even has a women-only private rental premium room.

You can enjoy a girls’ get-together in your own private space. A 2-hour package runs ¥2,000 per hour, and with up to 4 people, that’s just ¥500 a person when split.

Bedrock Bath at Yokohama Natural Hot Spring SPA EAS

Bedrock bath room

There are three types of bedrock baths — Kaka, Shuren (women only), and Menou (agate) — with the striped-stone Menou room located right next to the löyly event space.

Menou (agate) bedrock bath stones

The stones used in the Menou room are said to improve luck around health and relationships, deepening connections with others.

You only get one bath towel, so use it thoughtfully.

Esthetics & Relaxation Salon at Yokohama Natural Hot Spring SPA EAS

Esthetics and relaxation salon

SPA EAS offers a full lineup of treatment facilities.

At SeaSon’s, you can get body care, stretching, foot care, and head care treatments. At roughly ¥1,000 per 10 minutes, it’s on the more affordable end for spa treatment pricing.

Thai massage treatment room

Traditional Thai massage is the most popular treatment choice among Japanese guests.

A thorough, full-body refresh through deep tissue work and solid stretching!

How Crowded Does Yokohama Natural Hot Spring SPA EAS Get?

Facility exterior / signage

Just 5 minutes on foot from Yokohama Station’s west exit, Yokohama Natural Hot Spring SPA EAS brings together a natural hot spring, sauna, bedrock bath, relaxation space, desk-work space, restaurant/cafe, and esthetic/relaxation salon all under one roof.

Naturally, the big question is how crowded it gets.

So what days and times does Yokohama Natural Hot Spring SPA EAS tend to get busy?

On weekends and holidays, the whole facility tends to be busy in the afternoon, and on specific peak dates like Golden Week or New Year’s, it can get crowded enough to limit entry.

Even on weekdays, it gets busy in the evening to night, especially the men’s sauna — when I visited on a weekday in December, the men’s sauna was running at roughly 40–80% capacity. It never got crowded enough to form a line on a weekday, but I’ve heard that on weekends and holidays, afternoon onward can mean an actual line for the sauna.

The hot spring and relaxation spaces stay relatively uncrowded by comparison, which really drives home just how big the sauna boom has become.

Admission Fees at Yokohama Natural Hot Spring SPA EAS

With energy costs climbing in recent years, spa facilities everywhere have been raising their prices!

For comparison, Spa LaQua in Korakuen (central Tokyo) costs about ¥4,000 total — ¥3,240 plus a ¥660 surcharge on weekends, holidays, and other specific dates.

So how does Yokohama Natural Hot Spring SPA EAS’s pricing compare?

TypePrice
Weekday standard rate (incl. bedrock bath)
+¥100 bathing tax
¥2,670
Weekday member rate (incl. bedrock bath)
+¥100 bathing tax
¥2,560
Weekend/holiday surcharge (Sat/Sun/holidays/specific dates)+¥550
Weekday Sauna Plan 90¥1,540
Weekday Working EAS!
※ Bedrock bath not included
¥2,100

The weekday minimum admission fee is ¥2,670, which is cheaper than comparable spas in central Tokyo.

If you only want the sauna, it’s ¥1,540 for 90 minutes. That’s pricier than most capsule hotel sauna facilities or super sentos, which tend to run under ¥1,000 less — but the comfort level here more than justifies it.

If you’re after sauna plus coworking, the weekday Working EAS! plan is the one to go for.

Is There a Coupon for Yokohama Natural Hot Spring SPA EAS?

Right now, you can get a discount coupon through Asoview offering up to 27% off the standard admission fee, usable on both weekdays and weekends/holidays. Tens of thousands of users have already taken advantage of it — there’s no reason not to use it.

Up to 27% off with this special deal!

My Honest Impressions After Visiting

The moment I walked in, the comfort level immediately reminded me of Spa LaQua in Korakuen — it’s basically the Yokohama version of LaQua.

With a natural hot spring and multiple saunas, plus a body-temperature bath and source-fed bath in the open-air area, it’s thoroughly enjoyable for anyone who loves hot springs and saunas.

The rest areas are spacious enough that overcrowding doesn’t seem likely to be an issue.

If they offered bedrock bath outfits and free bath towel exchanges, it’d be a perfect 100 out of 100 — but for anyone living around Yokohama looking for adult relaxation, SPA EAS is the clear choice!

Weekends get quite crowded, so I’d strongly recommend going on a weekday morning!

If you’re near Yokohama Station and want a top-tier sauna and hot spring experience without the crowds of central Tokyo, SPA EAS is well worth checking out — just try to go on a weekday morning!
