Joe

Hi there! This is Joe.

This time I stayed at “Spa & Hotel Isawa Kenko Land” in the Isawa Onsen area of Yamanashi!

It wasn’t just the baths: the meals at the restaurant and the breakfast buffet were so substantial that I’ll report in full with plenty of food photos!

Isawa Kenko Land is a large hot spring facility in Fuefuki, Yamanashi, where a “hotel” and a “health land” are combined in a single building.

It’s open 24 hours and has everything from baths, a restaurant, and massage to manga and a game corner.

I’ve put together a look inside the facility along with photos from my stay.

This time there are especially many photos of food!
Please get a feel for the atmosphere of the restaurant “Wagokoro” and the breakfast buffet from the photos.

In-Facility Map | Start by Checking the Whole Layout

1st-floor map of Isawa Kenko Land

This is the 1st-floor map next to the front desk.
It’s a very large facility, so checking where things are first makes it easier to get around.
Without the map, I’d probably get lost just going from the bath back to my room.

Isawa Kenko Land facility guide

This is the facility guide board.
Floors 3 to 5 are guest rooms, with facilities on the 2nd and 1st floors.

2nd-floor map of Isawa Kenko Land

The 2nd-floor map shows the rooms and relaxation-related floors.

Entrance, Front Desk, and Lobby

Shoe lockers at the entrance of Isawa Kenko Land

Just inside the entrance, colorful shoe lockers are lined up.
The style is to take your shoes off inside. For feet tired from hiking, this is perfect.

Front desk at Isawa Kenko Land

The front desk is straight ahead.
The spacious lobby with its high ceiling was impressive.

Lobby with vending machines

Vending machines are lined up at the back of the lobby.

Checkout machine and wristband return box

Checking out is done at an automatic payment machine.
Next to it was a “wristband return box,” so it seems wristbands are used inside the facility.

“GoGo Suruga” sightseeing brochure corner

The lobby also had a sightseeing brochure corner.
Looking for your next destination is fun too.

Character panel announcing the free shuttle bus

The cute character panel says “There’s a free shuttle bus!”
The laid-back character recommends the shuttle bus with all its might.
Being able to use the bus from the station is welcome on days with lots of luggage.

However, there’s information that the shuttle bus runs infrequently.
It’s reassuring to check the times on the official site in advance.

Rooms | Checking the 5th-Floor Single Room

I stayed in a single-type room on the 5th floor.
It’s compact, but had everything needed for a good night’s rest.

5th-floor common area

The 5th-floor common area had shelves with room wear lined up by size, a corner with a pot and teacups, and a “room wear return box” in front.

There were lots of electric fans lying around, which felt kind of surreal.

Corridor on the guest room floor

This is the corridor on the guest room floor.
It has blue carpeting and a calm atmosphere.

Door of Room 501

The door number is “501.”
It has a simple look, typical of a hotel room.

Entrance of the room

When I opened the door, a facility guide was posted right beside it.

Single bed

The bed is a single size for one person.
It’s dressed in white sheets.

Window side and desk of the room

By the window are curtains, a desk, a trash can, and an air purifier.
The layout is compact, but everything is there.

TV and desk

On the desk were a TV, a telephone, an ashtray, and facility flyers.
The ashtray gives it a slightly nostalgic feel.

Refrigerator in the room

The small refrigerator has usage instructions posted on it.

Inside the refrigerator

Open the door and, of course, it’s empty. You can chill drinks you bring in.

Closet in the room

The closet is the type with a bar for hanging hangers.

Room wear

This is the room wear (top and bottom set).
It was a combination of a navy jacket and brown pants.

Toilet and vanity

The toilet and vanity are compactly arranged.
There’s no bath in the room; the style is to use the large public baths in the facility.

Hot Springs, Saunas, and Bedrock Bathing | 20+ Kinds of Baths and Saunas!

Isawa Kenko Land’s number one attraction is, without a doubt, the baths.
With baths and saunas combined there are over 20 kinds, plus bedrock bathing and even a ceramic bath!
The long bathing hours are also something only a health land can offer.

I don’t have photos from inside the baths this time, so the photos in this chapter are quoted from the official Isawa Kenko Land website.

Large Public Bath and Open-Air Bath

Source: Isawa Kenko Land official website

According to the official site, the baths are extremely varied, including pressure-jet and bubble baths, a nano-bubble carbonated spring, a natural radium ore bath, a lying bath, an herbal bath, a carbonated spring, and a stone bath.

The “ceramic bath” is a bath you can enjoy alone while looking up at the wide sky.

For detailed hot spring information such as the water quality, please check the latest on the official site.

Noren curtains at the entrance of the large public bath

At the bath entrances, navy and reddish noren marked “Men” and “Women” were lined up.

Shelf of towels and room wear

Lots of towels are stacked at the front desk.

Hotels with unlimited towels are getting rare these days, so I’m really grateful!

Checking the Various Baths with Photos

I’ll introduce the baths listed on the official site with photos!

The photo on the official site is labeled “women’s open-air bath.”

Saunas and Cold Plunge | Spotlight on the Isaken SAUNA (80 degrees)

What sauna fans should look at is the “Isaken SAUNA” in the men’s bath area!

The temperature is 80 degrees.
It’s a proper self-loyly sauna using a HARVIA sauna heater.

Isaken SAUNA (80 degrees)
Source: Isawa Kenko Land official website

When you pour water on the sauna stones, steam envelops the whole sauna room.
It’s a self-service style where you do the loyly at your own timing.

There’s no TV, BGM, thermometer, or other information display, making it a space where you can focus on heat, steam, and silence.
The lighting is indirect, giving a calm atmosphere.

The sauna in the men’s bath area, originally a salt sauna, was fully renovated and reopened on August 1, 2026.
It’s a sauna pursuing the true comfort of a sauna, carrying on the “Shinken SAUNA” of Shinshu Kenko Land, without a doubt!!

The cold plunge is a newly installed single-person Shigaraki-ware tub.
A “gushing shower” usable before and after the cold plunge has also been introduced.
Cool down without minding those around you! Fantastic!

Isawa Kenko Land has 6 kinds of saunas in all

I’ve put the contents of the official site into a table.

Bedrock Bathing

Entrance to bedrock bathing

The bedrock bathing area is marked by a stone-style entrance.
A “Ladies’ Day” banner was also standing at the entrance.

Bedrock bathing has several rooms, including a healing room, Yakusekido, Magmado, Salt Dome, and a cool-down room.
Yakusekido is shared by men and women, and Bisekido is women-only.

Meals | Soba Restaurant “Wagokoro” and the Breakfast Buffet

Large dining space in the facility

The facility also has a large dining space with lots of table seats.
It has an atmosphere that looks usable for resting, too.

Meals at the Soba Restaurant “Wagokoro”

Entrance of the soba restaurant “Wagokoro”

The restaurant is “Soba-dokoro Wagokoro,” marked by red lanterns.
Hours are 11:00 to 23:00 (last order 22:30), so you can use it late.

Wagokoro ticket machine

For meals, the style is to buy a meal ticket at the machine near the entrance.
There was a notice about scanning a barcode.

Wagokoro menu

The wall is lined with menus with photos of the dishes.
Everything looks delicious, and it’s hard to choose!

Wagokoro food samples

The display case at the entrance had food samples lined up.
The range is wide, from omurice and cutlets to rice bowls and noodles.
Just standing in front of the case, I could easily spend a good 5 minutes deciding.

Wagokoro food samples (set meals)

These are hearty menu items such as set meals with sashimi, tempura, and soba.

Torimotsu set meal

Torimotsu set meal

What I chose was the torimotsu set meal!
On the tray are torimotsu, noodles, rice, and small side dishes.

Close-up of the torimotsu

Here’s a close-up of the torimotsu.
It’s coated in a glossy sauce and topped with an egg yolk.
It looks like it would go great with rice.
It makes you want a beer too, a dangerous one!!

Ankake rice bowl and fried chicken set meal

Ankake rice bowl and fried chicken set meal

What I ate in the evening was a set meal of an ankake rice bowl with fried chicken. It came with small side dishes and miso soup, a full-volume meal!!
The thick, ingredient-packed ankake looks like it would warm you up.
With fried chicken on top of the bowl as well, it’s a full-stomach course for sure.

For my breakfast, I took a little at a time of houtou, rice, salad, small dishes, grilled salmon, shumai, and more!
…or so I say, but my tray quickly got jammed up.

Houtou

And the Yamanashi specialty “houtou”!
Wide noodles, generously in the bowl.
When you come to Yamanashi, it’s a bowl you really want to eat.

Facilities to Play and Relax In

Isawa Kenko Land isn’t just baths and meals.
The relaxation and entertainment facilities are so rich you could spend a whole day inside.

Reviews and Ratings

On Rakuten Travel it was rated 4.20 (1,485 reviews) (as of when I checked).
It’s a popular facility that many people stay at.

Points I Learned from Staying

Good points

  • Rich saunas. The men’s bath area has the 80-degree self-loyly “Isaken SAUNA,” and there are 6 kinds of saunas in all.
  • Open 24 hours, with lots of freedom. The baths and the restaurant can be used late.
  • Substantial meals. Soba restaurant “Wagokoro” has a wide range of menu items, and in the morning there’s a buffet with many dishes.
  • You can spend a whole day inside. Massage, manga, games, and other relaxation facilities are all there.

Concerns

  • The room is compact. The single type is just big enough for a bed and a desk.
  • It’s a bit far on foot from the station. It’s about a 20-minute walk from JR Isawa-Onsen Station, so it’s reassuring to check the shuttle bus times.
  • The facility is large. Looking at the in-facility map first makes it harder to get lost.

Access and Parking

By train, it’s about a 20-minute walk from JR Isawa-Onsen Station.
There’s also a free shuttle bus, with a ride of about 5 minutes.
However, it runs infrequently, so check the times in advance.

By car, it’s about 25 minutes from Ichinomiya-Misaka IC on the Chuo Expressway and about 30 minutes from Kofu-Showa IC.
Parking is free, but information on the number of spaces is divided, so it’s reassuring to check in advance during holiday weekends when you’re worried about it being full.

I’ve summarized Yamanashi’s sightseeing spots in this article.
