Hello! (@chiropiyo0331) here.
This time I stayed at Kamenoi Hotel Atami, on a hill overlooking Sagami Bay in Atami, Shizuoka, so let me introduce it.
Kamenoi Hotel Atami sits on a hill, so you can enjoy views of the Atami townscape and all of Sagami Bay!!
This article is just right for “people who want to stay at Kamenoi Hotel Atami but are curious what it’s like” and “people curious about the hotel’s interior, the all-you-can-eat tuna, and what dinner and breakfast are like,” so please be sure to read to the end.
Who Kamenoi Hotel Atami is best for

Atami is one of Japan’s leading hot spring resort towns and once drew as many as 5.32 million tourists a year, but it also went through a slump due to the Great East Japan Earthquake and COVID-19.
In recent years, however, Atami has regained its liveliness with more delicious cafés and exquisite eats, such as street-food sweets and Instagrammable sweets.
According to a 2022 Rakuten Travel survey, it was ranked No. 1 among popular domestic hot spring areas.
Around Atami there are about 200 hotels and hot spring inns, counting both large and small.
With about 200 to choose from, it’s hard to decide which hotel or hot spring inn to stay at, right?
This time I chose Kamenoi Hotel Atami for an Atami trip, and based on my actual stay, the people best suited to stay at Kamenoi Hotel Atami are as follows.
・Want to stay at a hotel overlooking the Atami townscape and Sagami Bay

Overview of Kamenoi Hotel Atami

Now let me introduce the details of Kamenoi Hotel Atami, where I stayed this time.
This time I went by train + bus.
After getting off at Atami Station, I boarded the free shuttle bus departing from shuttle bus stop A just before the rotary.
In about 15 minutes we arrived at Kamenoi Hotel Atami 🚌
Check-in

After entering the main entrance, the front desk is on the left.
Many people use the free shuttle bus, so a line can form after the bus arrives. I recommend boarding near the front of the bus 👌

We got explanations of the room location and of the dinner, breakfast, and public bath locations and times, and check-in was done!
For both dinner and breakfast, we could freely choose the time within the specified range.
Our room was on the top 9th floor! Yay~ 😍

If you’ll also take the free shuttle bus back to Atami Station, be sure to reserve it at arrival or before the day of your stay.

Right next to the front desk is a yukata corner, so pick the yukata design you like.
For adults the sizes are extra large, large, medium, and small, and for children there are three: large, medium, and small.

The amenity bar is near the yukata corner.
It has hairbrushes, shower caps, cotton swabs, hair ties, and razors.
Guest room

Going past the front desk, we saw a hall with a gold elevator.
Our room is on the 9th floor, so we go up from the 2nd-floor front desk~.
There are three elevators, so it was never especially crowded 👍

The 9th-floor elevator hall has waiting sofas and a table.

The guest room corridor is a little narrow, but with a white × beige color scheme it’s elegant and calming.

The door is unlocked with a physical key. It locks automatically when closed, so be careful not to lock your key inside.

The room has an entryway, where you take off your shoes.
Going barefoot is comfortable, isn’t it~. Personally I like it.

It’s a standard Western-style room so I didn’t expect much, but when I went in it was spacious!!
Though it’s a single room, it has a study space and a living area, so it’s quite roomy.

Even looking from the balcony side, it’s spacious and clean in any case!

There’s a two-seat chair and a single chair too. You can feel the sunlight from the balcony.

On the table is a welcome sweet, “New Summer Orange.”
A gaufrette sandwiching cream with the fresh scent of New Summer Orange, an Izu specialty.
Easy to eat and delicious!!

The tea chest has glasses, teacups, tea, and a teapot.

The beds are semi-double size, spaced appropriately, with no sense of being cramped.

In the middle of the bed frame there is one outlet and one USB port, so charging your phone while lying down is no problem!

The study space and TV stand are one unit, but computer work is no problem.
Mineral water isn’t in plastic bottles, but there are water servers on each floor where you can refill.

The table is a bit shallow in depth, but it’s not bothersome unless you’re working for a long time.

Next to the study space is a storage shelf; opening it reveals a chahaori (hanten) jacket, an obi sash, a bath towel set, and Febreze.
There are plenty of hangers, and a safe underneath.

The chahaori (hanten) jackets are unisex and blue-toned.
Bathroom, toilet, and washbasin

In the Western-style Standard Twin Room at Kamenoi Hotel Atami, the bath, toilet, and washbasin are all separate.

The washbasin is spacious and clean. When the plumbing area is clean you feel great.

POLA body soap, cups, and a toothbrush set are provided.

The bathroom is the size you’d find in an ordinary home, and from the window you can see Atami’s townscape and the sea.

The amenities in the room’s bathroom are the DHC Olive Green series.

Open the door next to the TV to find the toilet. It’s deep, so you can take your time.
Hot spring at Kamenoi Hotel Atami

Kamenoi Hotel Atami has four kinds of baths, including an open-air bath and a reclining bath.
The hot spring is on the 1st floor, and you can also go down directly by stairs from the 2nd-floor lobby.

The men’s bath is labeled “Grand SPA Tono.”

The women’s bath is labeled “Hime.”

The changing room is spacious, and you can lock up with the wristband-style key, so you feel at ease.

A cold water dispenser for after the hot spring is also provided!

The indoor bath has three kinds of hot spring, including a reclining bath. The water quality is calcium-sodium sulfate-chloride spring, colorless and clear.

The open-air area has one bath. Through gaps in the partition you can see Atami’s nature.
There are hotels and houses nearby, so be careful not to get too close to the partition.
Dinner at Kamenoi Hotel Atami

Dinner at Kamenoi Hotel Atami is held at “Sakuya,” right in front of the 2nd-floor elevator hall, a buffet of about 60 Japanese and Western dishes.

The restaurant isn’t very large, and the buffet area feels cramped.

There are big windows, but at night it’s pitch dark all around and you can’t see anything, so you can sit anywhere.

The salad bar has lettuce, broccoli, cherry tomatoes, tuna, corn, red onion, harusame glass noodles, and pumpkin potato, with a choice of five dressings.

Omurice with sausage.

Avocado and shrimp in cream dressing.

Qingjiao rousi (beef and pepper stir-fry) and paella. There are not many Chinese dishes, but there is shumai and so on.

Normally it comes on skewers, but this is Shizuoka oden, a local Shizuoka dish where the ingredients are simmered in a black broth!!
It looks piping hot and delicious.

The live kitchen serves nigiri sushi. There are toppings kids like too, such as shrimp, salmon, and squid~.

Nigiri of salmon and squid. They put two pieces of each on a plate, so take whichever toppings you like.

A mini seafood bowl. It looks delicious, but if I ate it I probably couldn’t eat the other dishes 😂

Sautéed squid. There’s a ton of it and it looks delicious!!

The moment we’ve been waiting for! All-you-can-eat tuna.
The one in the dish is negitoro, and clockwise from there are five kinds in all: medium fatty tuna (chutoro), lean tuna (akami), bigeye tuna (bachi maguro), and yellowfin tuna (kihada maguro).
You can have seconds after finishing a plate. Three plates is probably my limit.

I loaded up mainly on seafood.
At a buffet I go easy on rice and prioritize salads, local dishes, and the other signature items!
Breakfast at Kamenoi Hotel Atami

Breakfast at Kamenoi Hotel Atami is a Japanese-Western buffet at “Sakuya” on the 2nd floor, same as dinner.
As with dinner, there are no set times, and you can enter any time between 7:00 and 9:30.
I stayed on a weekday and was able to use it with no particular wait.
Here is an example of the breakfast menu.

The salad corner has almost the same menu as the dinner buffet, with vegetable sticks added.

“Medetai-meshi,” a mix of sea bream marinated in light, savory white soy sauce and tororo yam with dashi.

A bit heavy for the morning, but a fluffy sakura shrimp kakiage.

Fujinomiya yakisoba, characterized by its chewy noodles.

For those who don’t like the medetai-meshi, how about the ginger-and-daikon topping (bukkake)?
Light ginger and spicy daikon go great with rice!

Dried horse mackerel and salt-grilled mackerel! Grilled fish from the morning gets you plenty of calcium.

Corn dogs and french fries. The sweet batter of the corn dog is addictive.

A mini bread corner. Classic breads like sandwich bread, plain bread, and croissants are lined up.

For after-meal dessert, the strawberry and blueberry cake looks delicious!!

There’s also fruit punch that includes blueberries.

I ate too much tuna at dinner, so I loaded breakfast lightly. (It wasn’t light.)

At breakfast, you can look out over Atami’s townscape and the sea from the buffet windows!!
Staying at Kamenoi Hotel Atami

This time I was looking for a hotel overlooking Atami’s townscape and the sea, so I stayed at Kamenoi Hotel Atami.

The top-floor room was inexpensive for the price, the view from the balcony was great, and the night view was beautiful and wonderful!!
I had hoped for a view from the open-air bath like the one from the room, but the open-air bath has a partition wall and you can’t see much, which was disappointing!!
The seafood at the dinner buffet was plentiful, with sushi, seafood bowls, and sashimi, so you might enjoy it enough even without the all-you-can-eat tuna, but for people who love lean tuna, the plan with all-you-can-eat tuna is recommended.
There are few hotels in Atami with a public bath that has a sauna, so a sauna and cold plunge would have been perfect, but overall I’m satisfied!
