Today I’m introducing Sky Spa YOKOHAMA, just 3 minutes on foot from Yokohama Station’s east exit — a spa with sweeping views of Yokohama that’s drawn even more attention since opening one of Japan’s largest unisex saunas.
It’s popular enough to rank near the top of “Sauna Ikitai,” Japan’s biggest sauna-finding site and ranking platform!
Joe, who loves hot springs and saunas, actually went and checked it out, so in this post I’ll share what Sky Spa YOKOHAMA is really like, including how crowded it tends to get!
A brand-new sauna theater, one of Japan’s largest — a whole new way to experience “totonoi”!

It offers a Western-style spa experience with a high-concentration carbonated bath, jacuzzi bath, salt sauna, dry sauna, and a unisex sauna theater.

Inside Sky Spa YOKOHAMA

Sky Spa YOKOHAMA’s entrance is on the 14th floor of the Sky Building, so take the elevator up.
Once you step off the elevator, the entrance comes into view right down the hallway.

The shoe lockers are immediately on the left as you walk in. Lock up your shoes and hand the shoe locker key straight to the front desk — no coin needed.
Right next to it are valuables lockers too, easy to remember.
Front Desk at Sky Spa YOKOHAMA

The front desk is immediately to the right of the entrance. During busy times, line up along the red tape on the floor.
Pocari Sweat, a sauna-goer’s staple, is sold right at the front desk.
Check-in is explained briefly — once you tell them which plan you want, you’ll get a wristband and loungewear in exchange for your shoe locker key. There’s no printed pamphlet or guide provided.
This time, I was visiting on a specific peak date, and I chose the 5-hour general bathing course.
A 5-hour stay is doable without rushing if you add a relaxation service and check in before 5:00 PM, which lets you stay until 10:00 PM with no extension fee.
The Main Bath at Sky Spa YOKOHAMA

After checking in, head right toward the spa & sauna area. Along the way there’s a water server and various sauna goods for sale. Chairs are set up facing this hallway, so quiet phone calls are fine here.

The men’s bath is on the left, the women’s on the right, marked with stylish, fashionable icons.

Standard lockers locked via wristband, packed tightly in rows.

The lockers are quite narrow, so bags or backpacks with much depth likely won’t fit — worth keeping in mind.
Each locker has 3 hangers, which should be plenty even in winter.
Near the bath entrance I spotted a huge stack of green face towels — unlimited use is a nice touch, though it’s a bit of a shame they don’t have larger bath towels available.

The main bath includes a jacuzzi bath, a carbonated cypress-wood bath, a reclining soak bath, and two types of cold plunge baths, letting you relax while soaking in the sweeping Yokohama skyline.
The Western-style design has a raised, round platform in the middle that, depending on how you look at it, resembles a stage — which means being watched from the relaxation chairs nearby might make some people feel a bit self-conscious. A minor downside.
The Sauna at Sky Spa YOKOHAMA

The dry sauna is spacious — a large, two-tier sauna that fits up to 25 people.
The moment you walk in, a faint aroma scent hits you and it’s instantly addictive.
What really sells this sauna is the chance to reach “totonoi” while taking in sweeping views of Yokohama.
Two HARVIA tower stoves sit at the center, with regular and automatic löyly keeping humidity above 50% — you can tell right away you’re sweating more than the temperature alone would suggest.
The room runs around 95°C, with no TV.

At night, the glowing night view of urban Yokohama comes into focus — quite romantic.
In photos it can look like sunlight, but it’s actually green lighting creating a wonderfully moody atmosphere.

The women’s sauna has a design that contrasts with the men’s. The temperature runs around 76°C — more modest than the men’s sauna, which makes it approachable even for sauna beginners.
Heat escapes near the entrance, so it’s best to sit further back.

A massive unisex sauna theater that only opened in November 2021!
It has 3 Finnish-made IKI stoves and fully automatic löyly.
A real-time view of Yokohama is projected on the screen.
At around 65°C, you’ll start sweating within 5 minutes — hotter than it looks.
Aufguss events are held here too, and this sauna has drawn enough attention to host world championship aufguss events.

You get a beautiful night view even through the glass — a perfect sauna setting for couples.
The Aufguss Event at Sky Spa YOKOHAMA

Sky Spa YOKOHAMA holds a free aufguss event every single day.
It’s first-come, first-served with no reservation, so it’s best to be in the sauna and ready 5 minutes before it starts.
While the door is open during setup, the temperature drops a bit.
<Men’s Dry Sauna>
Aufguss times: 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:00, 17:00, 18:00, 19:00, 20:00, 21:00, 24:00
<Women’s Dry Sauna>
Aufguss: 12:00, 15:00, 19:00, 24:00
Aroma löyly (staff pour aroma water on the stove): 7:00, 13:00, 14:00, 16:00, 17:00, 18:00, 20:00, 21:00, 22:00, 23:00
Watching the aufguss performer work, feeling the aroma and the blast of heat all at once, you’ll break into a serious sweat.
Before the aufguss, lines form at the sauna entrance stretching all the way back to the washing area.

The other sauna here is called Thermare, a salt sauna.
Most people flow toward the dry sauna, so this one is a quiet hidden gem. Rub salt all over your body, and after about 10 minutes your skin turns wonderfully smooth.
Cold Plunge Bath at Sky Spa YOKOHAMA

The cold plunge is positioned right in front of the sauna — the flow couldn’t be more convenient.
When there’s a line for the sauna, be considerate not to splash water on those waiting.
The water temperature is 15°C and feels genuinely cold. It’s filtered through binchotan charcoal, so the water quality is excellent.
Relaxation Space at Sky Spa YOKOHAMA
The relaxation space includes 3 fully-flat reclining chairs by the window in the back, 15 seats near the washing area, and 3 chairs where you can cool down under a mist shower.
Compared to the sauna’s capacity, the space falls a bit short, so some people end up resting on washing-area stools or by the window.
It’s a shame there’s no outdoor air-bathing option. The cold water fountain is conveniently located inside the bathing area, though.
Dining at Sky Spa YOKOHAMA

In the center of the 14th floor is Refresh Dining KOO, offering a hearty, wide-ranging selection of post-sauna meals.

There’s counter seating in the middle surrounded by table seats.

Further back there are several sunken-floor (horigotatsu) seats too, great for relaxing at leisure.

The most popular dish is the “Special Kimchi Jjigae,” balanced between spicy red chili powder and the savory kick of green chili.
I went with the large size for ¥1,260, plus an extra spice level for ¥50 and a closing rice porridge (zosui) for ¥210 — the ultimate post-sauna meal!
The tanginess was just right, and the closing zosui disappeared in no time! Thank you for the meal.
The menu ranges from Kyushu regional specialties to drinking snacks — plenty of variety.
Every Friday is Men’s Day, and checking in earns you a free drink ticket.
Eligible drinks range from various alcoholic options to soft drinks — definitely worth using!
The Lounge at Sky Spa YOKOHAMA

The 14th floor has a unisex space with a bay view where you can relax at your own pace.

This is a free meeting room where food and drink are allowed. With a whiteboard available, it’s great for running an efficient meeting!
It’s available to groups of 2 to 6 people, for up to 2 hours.

This coworking space, with a chair that has a backrest and a desk, is also pretty solid.
It does sit along a walkway, though, so it might be a bit distracting.

This is the lounging space / immersion booth. It’s a semi-private nook with cushions provided.
Limited to one group for up to 2 hours, and napping isn’t allowed under the rules. Leaving your seat for more than 30 minutes may result in it being cleaned and reassigned.

It’s an open space, but there’s one fully-flat chair. This counter seat is good for a bit of quick research or work.
Esthetics & Relaxation Salon at Sky Spa YOKOHAMA

The massage room reception is on the 15th floor. Right next to it is a women-only relaxation room, so try to keep conversation quiet.

The menu includes body care, reflexology, aroma lymphatic detox, and traditional Thai massage. Prices run about ¥1,100 per 10 minutes, which feels a bit on the higher side for the Yokohama area.

I actually booked the 60-minute head spa course for ¥8,800 and received the treatment in this room.
You can choose one focus area to your liking, so I went with back and head — I was out cold and the hour flew by.
This also meant I could stay until 10:00 PM without the usual 5-hour limit, even on a weekend or peak date.
How Crowded Does Sky Spa YOKOHAMA Get?

Being able to reach “totonoi” in the sauna while soaking in sweeping Yokohama views makes this a truly one-of-a-kind facility.
Naturally, the big question is how crowded it gets.
So what days and times does Sky Spa YOKOHAMA tend to get busy?
Sky Spa YOKOHAMA tends to stay fairly busy even on weekdays, with the men’s sauna in particular forming an actual line right before the aufguss event.
On weekends, holidays, and peak dates, the men’s side can go into entry-restriction mode in the afternoon, sometimes with waits of 1–2 hours. Entry restrictions tend to lift after 5:00 PM in the evening.
When I actually visited right after opening in the early afternoon of a peak date in December, I just barely got in without waiting before entry restrictions kicked in — about 30 minutes later, the men’s side went into restricted entry.
The waitlist had around 10 names on it, and it looks like people get called by phone as spots open up.
The hot spring, relaxation spaces, and restaurant stay relatively uncrowded by comparison, which makes it clear just how many people are there specifically for the sauna.

Admission Fees at Sky Spa YOKOHAMA
With energy costs climbing in recent years, spa facilities everywhere have been raising their prices!
For comparison, Spa LaQua in Korakuen (central Tokyo) costs about ¥4,000 total — ¥3,240 plus a ¥660 surcharge on weekends, holidays, and other specific dates.
So how does Sky Spa YOKOHAMA’s pricing compare?
| Type | Adult | Student |
| Weekday general bathing (entry before 5:00 PM, up to 10:00 PM max) | ¥2,550 | ¥2,300 |
| Weekday general bathing (entry after 5:00 PM, up to 5 hours) | ¥2,550 | ¥2,300 |
| Weekend/holiday/peak date general bathing (up to 5 hours) | ¥3,150 | ¥2,500 |
| Weekday 2-hour bathing | ¥2,150 | ¥2,150 |
| Weekend/holiday/peak date 2-hour bathing | ¥2,400 | ¥2,150 |
| Weekday 1-hour bathing | ¥1,550 | ¥1,550 |
| Weekend/holiday/peak date 1-hour bathing | ¥1,700 | ¥1,700 |
| Early morning bathing (entry 5:00–7:59 AM, up to 10:00 AM max) | ¥1,850 | ¥1,850 |
Weekday general bathing is ¥2,550 for adults, slightly cheaper than comparable spas in central Tokyo.
If you just want a quick sauna session, the 1-hour plan for ¥1,550 is a great option.
With a well-equipped coworking space available, it’s great value to check in on a weekday morning for work and stay until 10:00 PM, all for ¥2,550.
Is There a Coupon for Sky Spa YOKOHAMA?

My Honest Impressions After Visiting
I’d heard rumors about saunaing with a view of Yokohama’s skyline, and with the sauna theater having recently opened too, Sky Spa YOKOHAMA had been on my must-visit list for a while.
The men’s sauna I’d been looking forward to was nearly packed the whole time, but the aroma and heat waves still let me reach a proper “totonoi.”
The unisex sauna theater was relatively uncrowded, though the room ran hotter than I expected inside. Getting to experience an authentic aufguss while looking at the night view left me thoroughly satisfied.
SPA EAS next door is hard to pass up too, but if you’re planning around an overnight stay, I’d recommend Sky Spa YOKOHAMA without hesitation!

If you want to sauna with a skyline view and don’t mind the crowds, Sky Spa YOKOHAMA is absolutely worth checking out — especially if you’re planning to stay overnight!
