This time, I stayed at the massive Hawaii Island resort “Hilton Waikoloa Village,” so I’m bringing you a thorough report on the whole experience.
“Not sure which hotel to pick on Hawaii Island?”
“Is it really true that it’s so huge that getting around is a hassle?”
“Can couples and families with kids both enjoy it?”
I actually stayed there myself, so let me answer these questions honestly, with no sugarcoating.

What kind of place is Hilton Waikoloa Village?
Hilton Waikoloa Village is a luxury resort hotel in the Waikoloa area of Hawaii Island, and it’s absolutely massive — 250,000 square meters, or about 7 times the size of the Tokyo Dome!
It has over 1,200 guest rooms, and the property itself houses 9 restaurants and shops — it’s a truly massive hotel.
Getting from Kona Airport to Hilton Waikoloa Village
From Kona Airport, Hilton Waikoloa Village is located about 31km to the north. There are almost no traffic lights along the way, but it still takes about 30 minutes by car.
When I actually went, I used Roberts Hawaii’s private transfer shuttle service.

The property is spread across three lodging areas: the Lagoon Tower, the Palace Tower, and the Ocean Tower.
What’s surprising is how you get from the main lobby to each area.
Believe it or not, there are dedicated trams (trains) and boats running between them! And of course, they’re completely free for guests.
The whole scene feels like you’ve stepped inside a Disney Resort park!
The property is so vast that walking from one end to the other takes over 20 minutes even for an adult, so getting around actually becomes an attraction in its own right.
On top of that, the hotel has its own private lagoon beach where you can swim in the ocean.
It’s even visited by wild sea turtles, beloved as “guardians of the sea”!
If you’re lucky, you might get to see them swimming right nearby.

Introducing the “Palace Tower” lodging area
Palace Tower guest rooms
This time I stayed in the “Palace Tower,” located right at the center of the resort.
The moment you step into the tower, the first thing that catches your eye is the grand fountain sculpture at the center.
The soothing sound of the water creates an overwhelming sense of luxury befitting a top-tier resort.
Since the Palace Tower sits right at the heart of the property, it also has excellent access to the lobby, restaurants, and pools — I felt it was the perfect area for anyone who wants both convenience and a luxurious atmosphere.
The room offered a generous 40 square meters or so of space.
It’s spacious enough that even with two people’s suitcases spread out, it never feels cramped.
And outside the large window stretched the beautiful “Waikoloa Beach Course” golf course!
The contrast between the endless vivid green lawns and the crystal-clear Hawaii Island ocean shimmering beyond them was breathtakingly beautiful.
“Playing a round surrounded by such a beautiful ocean would be the ultimate luxury…” — even if you’re not into golf, this was the kind of view that soothed the soul just by looking out the window.
What catches the eye is the spacious vanity made of luxurious marble-look material.
The bowl further enhances the hotel’s upscale feel.
Having enough room for two people to get ready side by side without feeling crowded is a nice touch when you’re traveling.
The amenities were fully stocked too — soap, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were all provided.
By the way, the hair dryer, which people often struggle to find on their first stay, was tucked away in the drawer on the right side!
Since you can just pull it out when you need it, it also keeps the top of the vanity looking nice and tidy — a definite plus.
Exploring the hotel
After the room tour, it was time to head out and explore the vast hotel grounds!
You can walk between the lodging areas, but be sure to make full use of the resort’s signature “dedicated tram” — of course, it’s free for guests.

- Operating hours: Daily from 6:00 AM to 2:00 AM
- Frequency: Roughly every 6 minutes
- Convenience: Since it runs from early morning until late at night, it’s very handy for getting to meals and activities.
This is the Kona Pool, located at the Ocean Tower.
It’s a spacious pool that everyone from kids to adults can enjoy, from the shallow end all the way to the water slide.

Breakfast at Hilton Waikoloa Village
When it comes to breakfast at Hilton Waikoloa Village, it’s the “Big Island Breakfast at Water’s Edge.”
The lagoon beach stretches out right in front of you for an open, airy view. I’d definitely recommend grabbing a window seat and taking your time over a leisurely Hawaiian breakfast~.
When it comes to breakfast overseas, bread is a must!
The croissants were nice and crispy, and really delicious.
The classic sausages were cooked to a juicy perfection — I could’ve eaten any number of them!
Getting plenty of veggies in first thing in the morning is a great way to start the day feeling good!

$52 for adults isn’t exactly cheap, but I think it’s worth splurging on for at least one day of your trip!

Dinner at Hilton Waikoloa Village (Nui Italian)
Less than a 5-minute walk from the Palace Tower is the stylish Italian restaurant Nui Italian.
The pizza and pasta, made by a chef from Sicily, are hugely popular — the place starts filling up around dusk and hits its peak, nearly full, around 7 PM.
Feeling ambitious, I ordered pasta plus a quarter-size Margherita pizza, but even though it was called “quarter size,” it was about the size of a Japanese M-size pizza.
Even if you can’t finish it, just ask for a To-Go Box and they’ll wrap it up neatly for you, so taking the rest with you is no problem at all!

Things to watch out for at Hilton Waikoloa Village
Give yourself plenty of time if you’re leaving the hotel!
As I mentioned earlier, this hotel’s grounds are enormous, so just getting off the property alone can take quite a while.
Be sure to plan with plenty of buffer time so you don’t miss the start of an optional tour or your airport transfer.
・The pickup point for optional tours and airport transfers is the main lobby.
・Plan for about 10 minutes from the Lagoon Tower or Palace Tower to the main lobby, and about 15–20 minutes from the Ocean Tower.
There are only 2 coin laundry locations!
If you’re staying long-term and need to do laundry, note that the Palace Tower itself doesn’t have a coin laundry.
If you’re staying at the Palace Tower, just getting to the laundry facility will eat up a fair bit of time, so I’d recommend planning ahead for this too.
・There’s only one coin laundry each at the Lagoon Tower and the Ocean Tower.
You’ll need to go a bit out of your way for a convenience store or supermarket!
The hotel has plenty of restaurants, but they’re all fairly pricey.
Since Hawaii Island is a remote island where bringing in supplies is difficult, prices tend to run even higher than on Oahu.
You can save a bit by shopping at a convenience store or supermarket, but you’ll need to take the hotel shuttle bus out to Queens’ MarketPlace to do so.
Keep in mind that the rooms don’t come with complimentary mineral water.
・To catch the shuttle bus, head down the stairs from the main lobby to the parking area outside the floor where the tour desk is located.
・The shuttle bus runs roughly every 20 minutes.
Who this hotel is a great fit for!
Having actually stayed here, here’s my rundown of who this hotel is best suited for.
Couples & honeymoons
The biggest draw here is having enough space to relax fully, making it perfect for spending an entire day lounging by the pool or on the beach without ever leaving the property.
For sunset, I’d highly recommend watching from Buta Point at the northernmost tip — it’s incredibly romantic.
Family trips
This hotel is also extremely well-suited for families. The pool, the beach, snorkeling, kayaking, and even activities where kids can interact with dolphins — this one hotel has it all.
In Japan, seeing dolphins usually means a trip to the aquarium at best, but here, “Dolphin Quest,” guided by marine mammal specialists, lets you get up close and interact directly with dolphins — it’s a program everyone from kids to adults can enjoy.

This might not be the best fit if…
・You want to keep costs down on food and other expenses beyond the room rate.
・Sightseeing is your main focus, so you won’t spend much time at the hotel itself.

Nearby sightseeing spots from Hilton Waikoloa Village
Waikoloa Beach Resort (0.3km)
A sightseeing spot just a few minutes’ walk from Hilton Waikoloa Village. Since this area sees very little rain, you have a very good chance of enjoying the gorgeous gradient of clear sky and ocean.
Unlike Waikiki Beach on Oahu, it’s very quiet and calm, letting you enjoy a laid-back resort mood.
Black Sand Beach (1.0km)
Black Sand Beach, where crumbled lava has turned the sand black. It’s located about 1km north of Hilton Waikoloa Village.
It’s a bit far to walk, so I’d recommend a taxi or rental car. This beach is quiet enough to feel almost like a private beach, so you can relax while listening to the sound of the waves.
Anaeho’omalu (1.2km)
Anaeho’omalu Beach, said to be worth visiting for the sunset alone. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to catch the sunset myself.
It’s about 1km south of Hilton Waikoloa Village. It’s also just a few minutes’ walk from the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa.

So, what did you think?
During peak season it can run over ¥50,000 a night, making it a genuinely high-end hotel, but with a pool, a beach, all kinds of water sports, and an escape from your everyday routine, it’s simply an amazing environment — I’d encourage you to stay here at least once!
The beautiful sky and ocean, and the view from the room, are absolutely wonderful!
